Is This Shop Real? How to Check an Online Adult-Products Seller in the UAE

TL;DRThe single strongest protection is cash on delivery: money moves only when the box is in your hand, and you can refuse it at the door at no cost. Treat these as real warning signs — no COD option, an advance transfer to a personal account, a demand for your card PIN or an SMS code, and no written return terms. Treat these as weak signals that prove nothing on their own: a young domain, few reviews, no physical shop. Almost no adult-products seller in the UAE has a storefront, and most domains in this category are young.

Start with how you pay, not with how the site looks

A polished website costs very little and proves nothing. The payment method is the part a fraudulent seller cannot fake, because it decides who is holding the money when something goes wrong.

Cash on delivery puts you in control. The courier arrives, the box is in your hands, and only then does the money move. If the parcel never comes, you have lost nothing. If the courier shows up and something feels wrong, you refuse it at the door and pay nothing — refusing a COD parcel costs the buyer nothing anywhere in the UAE.

The reverse case is where people lose money: a seller who insists on a bank transfer to a personal account before dispatch, or who only accepts crypto, or who asks you to pay a "customs release fee" after you have already paid for the goods. That last one is the most common adult-category scam in the Gulf, and it does not exist with a seller who holds stock inside the country.

Four things that are genuinely alarming

1. No cash-on-delivery option at all. There are legitimate reasons a seller limits COD on very large orders. There is no legitimate reason to refuse it entirely for a normal-sized order inside the UAE.

2. A request for card details, a card PIN, or a one-time SMS code. No seller needs any of these, ever. A payment link takes you to the bank's own page; the shop never sees the numbers. Anyone asking you to read out an SMS code is taking over an account, not selling you a product.

3. Pressure. "Last one in stock, transfer now." A real shop with stock in a warehouse has no reason to rush you into paying before dispatch.

4. No written return or fault terms anywhere on the site. Not the absence of a generous policy — the absence of any stated policy. A seller who has thought about what happens when a motor fails will have written it down. One who has not, has not thought about it.

Three things that look alarming and usually are not

A young domain. Domain-age checkers will flag almost every adult-products site in the UAE, because this category moves domains often and many sellers trade on Instagram and WhatsApp for years before registering one. A young domain next to an older trading history is worth a question, not a verdict — ask the seller to explain the gap, and see whether the explanation is specific and checkable.

Few reviews. Review volume in this category is structurally low: most buyers have no wish to attach their name to a public review of an adult product, however happy they are. A shop with thousands of glowing reviews in a category where nobody wants to be seen reviewing is more suspicious than one with a handful.

No physical shop. Adult products are not sold from licensed storefronts in the UAE. Every seller in this market is online. The absence of an address is the norm, not a signal.

Checks you can actually run in two minutes

Message them and watch how they answer. Ask something specific that a reseller with real stock can answer and a drop-shipper cannot: what material is it, what is the exact length, is it in the country right now, can you send a photo of the actual item on the shelf. A seller holding stock answers in minutes with a real photo. A seller who is forwarding your order abroad gets vague.

Ask where the stock is. "Already in the UAE" and "ships from abroad" are completely different risks. Anything crossing customs into the UAE in this category can be seized, and then the argument about who pays begins. Local stock removes that entire problem.

Ask for the delivery window in writing. A real courier arrangement produces a specific answer — a city, a time range, a cut-off hour. Vagueness here usually means there is no courier arrangement yet.

Look for an external review profile. Reviews printed on a shop's own website are written by the shop. A profile on an independent platform cannot be edited by the seller. Few reviews there are fine; the point is that the ones that exist are not self-published.

Ask whether you can collect it yourself. Not every seller offers pickup, and not offering it is not a red flag — but a seller who can name a real place where you could come and collect an order is a seller with real stock.

What discretion should look like

A serious seller in this market has thought about the parcel before you ask. The box should carry no logo, no product name and no category hint, on the outside or on the receipt, and the sender name on the waybill should be neutral. The courier should not know what is inside. If a seller cannot describe their packaging in concrete terms, they have not handled many orders like yours.

The same applies to the conversation. You are entitled to ask a seller to keep the chat out of a shared device, to avoid calling at certain hours, or to use a neutral name in any message. Those are normal requests in this category and a reasonable seller will simply agree.

Being honest about ourselves

We fail one of the weak signals above and we would rather say so plainly. This domain was registered in June 2026, so every domain-age tool reports it as new. The shop is older than the address: we sold on Instagram and WhatsApp for years before building a site. Our review count is small, for the reason described above. We have no licensed storefront, because nobody in this category does.

What we would point you to instead: cash on delivery is our default and covers almost every order, we never ask for a card number or an SMS code, there is a self-pickup point in Dubai if you would rather collect in person, our return terms are written down with actual numbers, and our review profile is on a platform we cannot edit. Those are the checks we would run on someone else.

Frequently asked questions

Is cash on delivery really safer than paying online?

For a first order from a seller you do not know, yes. With cash on delivery the money moves only when the parcel is physically in your hands, and refusing it at the door costs you nothing. A card payment made in advance puts you in the position of asking for a refund from someone you have not yet tested.

A domain-age tool says the site is only a few months old. Should I walk away?

Not on its own. This category moves domains frequently and many sellers trade for years on Instagram and WhatsApp before registering one. Ask the seller to explain the gap between the domain age and the claimed trading history. A specific, checkable answer is reassuring; a vague one is not.

The shop has only a few reviews. Is that a bad sign?

Not in this category. Very few buyers are willing to attach their name to a public review of an adult product, so review counts stay low even for busy shops. What matters more is whether the reviews sit on an independent platform the seller cannot edit, rather than being printed on the shop's own page.

What should I never agree to?

Never give a card PIN, a one-time SMS code, or online banking access to a seller — no legitimate shop needs any of them. Never pay a surprise fee after you have already paid for the goods, especially a customs or release fee from a seller who told you the stock was already in the UAE.

Can I ask the seller to prove the item is in stock?

Yes, and a seller with real stock will not mind. Ask for a photo or a short video of the actual item before dispatch. If the answer is a stock photo from the website or a delay of several days, the item is probably not in the country.
